Working with Local Schools
Many things are different and challenging in the era of Covid-19 and distance learning. Lamorinda Music is partnering with local schools to help students become familiar with band and orchestra instruments before they choose a musical instrument to play. Normally students would do this at school, but with kids learning from home that can be difficult. We have all instruments available as well as the required books.
Since students aren't in the classroom, we will help beginning string players by marking the fingerboard with fingering tapes, as well as helping with the tuning of the orchestra instruments. Band students are also welcome to stop by for in-person assistance at any time as well. We all want students to succeed despite the challenges facing us this year.
Safety is critically important to us in order to protect our staff and our customers. We will provide child-sized gloves so that students can hold and learn about instruments and how to care for them. Once your child has chosen and rented their instrument, staff will help them make their first sound and get them started on their new adventure! You can read about our rental program here.
All interactions at Lamorinda Music will be OUTSIDE in the front of the store, with social distancing and masks worn by all parties. In order to facilitate the rental process, parents can fill out our online rental reservation form so that the time spent will be minimal once you arrive.
You may want to consider private lessons (online at this point) for your student to give them a little boost since this will be a very nontraditional band and orchestra year! You can check out instructor information here (password is "music").
For a music-based approach to handling the stress of the pandemic (great for adults and students alike), check out this article, Mindfulness for Musicians and Listeners.
Thank you, stay safe, and we hope to see you soon!
