Private music instruction is important for all musicians, regardless of whether they are in a formal program at school. In fact, private lessons are a great complement to some of the outstanding music programs we have in our community. We offer a delightful environment for both private and group music lessons. We have ten state-of-the-art practice studios for lessons. We have some of the most respected music instructors available to teach piano, woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, ukulele, guitar, and more to musicians of all levels and all ages.

Q: How do I contact an instructor?

A: Go to the Instructor Listing page and click on the PDF icon at the top. Enter "music" when prompted and then you will see a page containing a list of instructor info in a set of PDF files organized by instrument type. Each PDF contains the instructor's bios as well as contact info (phone, email, etc.) Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Q: How much do lessons cost?

A: Every instructor has their own rate structure. Generally speaking, lessons start at around $45 per lesson, but it is up to each instructor.

 

Q: How long is a lesson? How often do they occur?

A: Usually lessons are 30 minutes long once a week at a regularly scheduled time. Some instructors prefer longer lessons, but 30 minutes is the norm.

 

Q: Do your instructors teach at the store or come to the house?

A: All our instructors teach at the store in a studio. 

 

Q: When are lessons available?

A: It all depends on the instructor - you can work with them to determine a mutually agreeable time. You can view our instructor listing and see which days they teach - that can help determine which instructor makes sense for you.

 

Q: How old must a student be before taking lessons?

A: It really depends on the instrument, the student, and the instructor. Usually 4th grade and above is fine for all instruments. 3rd grade and even 2nd grade can be fine as well depending on the students' size, fine motor skills, motivation, and ability to pay attention for the duration of a lesson. Piano and violin lessons can start much younger. Check out the instructor's bio sheets to see if they have any recommendations on student's age or feel free to chat with them about any questions you have.

Q: As a parent, what should I do while my student is taking a lesson?

A: We have a very comfortable lounge where you can wait for your student. On nice days you can hang out on the deck in back. Or, if you want to take advantage of the time your student has lessons, you can walk over to Lafayette's restaurant row for a quick bite to eat.
