Dear Friends -
Lamorinda Music stands in solidarity with the people and organizations working towards ending racism and injustice. Far too many of our fellow African American citizens have had their lives changed forever by the blind hatred of racism. We reject discrimination. We support solutions to heal our nation and improve conditions for those who have faced injustice.
How can music help? Music is a universal language that spans different generations, cultures, and backgrounds. Music can bring comfort to people and communities in pain. Music can create dialogue, collaboration, and cooperation. It brings people together in celebration and joy!
Our mission at Lamorinda Music is to encourage education, growth, and collaboration in the arts. The world of music has benefited tremendously from the pioneering Black artists who constantly redefine what music can be. However, too often their voices are silenced by racism, discrimination, and hate, even within the music industry. We acknowledge that Black Lives Matter and that we have a part to play in supporting Black artists in our community and ensuring that their music, history, and lasting impact are properly recognized. Without the groundbreaking contributions of African Americans in the foundations of jazz, soul, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, or rock and roll, we would not have modern music.
Lamorinda Music strives to be a safe and nurturing space for everyone to create, share, learn from each other, and lift each other up. We value all members of our community and will treat everyone with dignity and respect.
